Global data centre operator Etix Everywhere has announced plans to open a new collection of data centres in Frankfurt.

Teaming up with EVO, an electricity, natural gas and heat energy supply company, and Data Centre Group (DCG), a planning, design and certification office, the new centre will be located in Offenbach.

Etix Everywhere specialises in the construction and operation of large-scale data centres with a focus on turnkey projects for larger customers.

Part of the rapidly growing urban tech area in Frankfurt Rhein-Main, the €120 million building will open the first phase of the data centre by the third quarter in 2019.

Frankfurt’s technology scene continues to grow and is quickly becoming the second largest data centre hub in Europe.

The first phase of the project in Offenbach will be a 7,800sqm greenfield site which will provide 15 MVA of colocation capacity. Upon reaching full capacity, the data centre will house 3,000 racks across 8,000sqm of IT rooms.

Head of Energy Services for EVO, Robert Stoffers said: “This project is a strategic joint venture between Etix Everywhere, DCG and EVO. Our combined expertise will allow us to deliver a high-quality infrastructure to meet the booming demand for IT capacity in Frankfurt due to the exponential growth of IoT, Big Data, Blockchain…”

The venture is said to already be attracting negotiations from four potential customers.

Marc Fröse, Country Manager in Germany for Etix Everywhere commented that: “No matter what our clients’ needs are, our data center design will be flexible enough to meet their requirements. The emergence of new tech trends makes us rethink the organisation and localization of data centers, in order to cover all the needs.”

A variety of clients, from large cloud service providers to enterprise customers, will be supported by the new data centre.

“It was essential to come up with a scalable technical solution providing a maximum flexibility,” said Ralf Siefen, Managing Director of Data Center Group.

The centre will be one of the first data centres to meet the new EN 50600 European standard for data centres and will be a multi-tiered facility – offering differing redundancy levels – with the option for customers to choose their IT requirements based on needs.

More than 20 international telecommunication carriers will be available immediately on-site to ensure high functioning connectivity services for customers seeking to operate real-time applications.

The colocation data centre will provide a boost for Etix Everywhere’s current global data centre network that is already in operation.

Frankfurt’s notoriety as the leader of connectivity in Europe is thanks in part to its close proximity to the German Internet Exchange named “DE-CIX”, which is located less than 1km away from the new data centre.
