A market study from Technavio has produced findings for the global data centre construction market in the next four years

The global data centre construction market is set to grow to USD 73.87 billion by the year 2021.

That’s the key finding from a new market study from market research company Technavio. The report (entitled ‘Global Data Centre Construction Market 2017-2021’) says that the market is also set to grow by a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of over 8% over this forecast period up to 2021.

The report is an in-depth analysis of the global data centre construction market. It looks at the market in terms of revenue and emerging trends as well as current analysis and forecasts for the various market segments and all geographical regions. Among the vendors in the Technavio research were AECOM, HDR, Turner Construction, Arup Group and Gensler.

The report broke down the sector into three respective construction categories, which are General, Electrical and Mechanical.

The category that achieved the majority figure of the global data centre construction market was General, with 43%. Abhishek Sharma, lead analyst at Technavio for data centre research said: “This sector encompasses the design and construction of a well-secured facility, in addition to installing the setup, flooring, internal frames, external walls, windows, doors, installation of infrastructure, and disposal fittings.”

The growth in this particular field was a result of various security concerns among end-users. This led to a growth in investment made by the owners of data centres when they came to install high-tech security infrastructures.

The report anticipates that the Electrical sector is due to be worth USD 20.9 billion in four years’ time. Driving the growth in the Electrical category are the innovations and continual changes in design requirements for the development of green data centres. The most popularly used electrical data centre infrastructure includes the UPS, rack PDUs, generators, transfer switches, and switchgear.

Abhishek Sharma said that the Mechanical construction category relates to the components used in data centre designs including cooling solutions, racks, sprinklers, piping and water pipework installations, and lifts. “This segment is expected to grow swiftly at a CAGR of over 9% over the forecast period, driven by the installation of innovative products to improve the power usage effectiveness.”
