Uber and healthcare app Practo have today announced a global partnership which aims to make it easier for customers to reach a doctor. The service will initially roll out in four countries, India, Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia, before reaching other global locations over the coming months.
Practo will integrate an Uber option into its app, with the closest Uber cab identified alongside a reminder for the user’s medical appointment. The customer can then click on the alert and book the taxi immediately. The estimated fare and time of arrival will also be displayed. The destination address – the doctor’s surgery – will be pre-entered in the driver’s app. In the next phase of development, the pair hope to automate a request for an Uber taxi, one hour before the scheduled appointment.
Shashank ND, founder and CEO at Practo, explained that the company considered the additional stress involved in a doctor’s visit from transportation issues – “Having to drive through traffic, then hunt for parking – all while you or your loved one is sitting in the car feeling ill is a terrible experience,” he said. ND added that Practo’s goal with the Uber partnership was to completely remove this anxiety by integrating with the taxi-app’s seamless user experience.
Founded in 2008, Practo is an app which allows consumers to search for and book medical appointments and is available in 10 countries in Southeast Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The app has approximately 200,000 users and about 10 million monthly searches – it claims to be the fastest growing healthcare platform in Asia.
A similar Uber partnership was also set up in April this year, with dining out app Zomato, through which users can request an Uber taxi to transport them to their selected restaurant. The deal also follows Uber’s recent launch of UberASSIST, which caters specifically to the needs of the elderly, handicapped and disabled passengers.
